Happy "Big Mommy" Day...........

First off, an explanation for the blog title. For some reason, Delaney has started calling me "big mommy".  Now, I could totally do without the "big", but I also realize that before I know it, mommy will be shortened to just mom. So for now, I'll take "big mommy".  The only thing I can figure out is that Delaney remembers watching The Blind Side last weekend where Michael Oher went by "big Mike".

I know you're wondering why I am posting a picture of us with my eyes closed.  This picture totally represents all of our pictures these days, my eyes are closed, Delaney is a distracted 3 year old, etc.  It's not a good picture but it sure is a reminder of a good life!!!!  It is STILL so hard to believe she is mine...........
.

You would think from all of the cards, emails, texts, and phone calls that this was my first Mother's Day and not my fourth!

Speaking of my first Mother's Day........about a week before, David and I were taking Delaney for a walk (obviously the pollen count was acceptable) and he was so stressed over what to get me for my first Mother's Day.  I think I just laughed because seriously, what could be better than the gift I had just gotten.  I think I probably told him ('cause we all know that's what wives have to do) to get me flowers.  Husbands, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE do NOT get your wife flowers from the grocery store.  They scream "I stopped and picked these up on the way home".  I promise, if you learn this early (which David did) you will have a much happier wife!  So back to the story, David worked on Mother's Day that year (by the way, I got gorgeous flowers and a card that had the most perfect words any new mom could hear) so I devised made a plan to take my mom and Delaney for brunch and then of course shopping.  I "forgot" to tell David that I would be taking his precious baby girl out of the house.  And we all knew Delaney wasn't allowed out of the house.  I was pretty sure I would be getting a phone call from David that day and I did....MULTIPLE ONES in fact that I may or may not have ignored.  Then, I got a call from grandpa saying "next time you go AWOL you may want to include me in on your plan, David just called wanting to know where you were"..........THE GIG WAS UP! Right there in Von Maur, the phone rang again and I could no longer ignore his calls.  I answered and the conversation went something like this....

A: Hello
D: Where are you
A: At the mall with mom
D: Where is Delaney
A: With me, didn't I tell you we were doing something today
D: NO, HOW DID YOU GET THE STROLLER IN THE CAR
A: What do you mean
D: I didn't know you knew how to work the stroller
A: David, what mom doesn't know how to work her stroller
D: You
A: You're right we just threw it in the back of the car without folding it up
D: I knew it, now get home

I cannot tell you how many times I just threw it in the back of the car before figuring out how to unfold it!!!!

Now, in my defense, just last summer, my mom, Delaney, and I were at the mall and a new mom walked in carrying her brand new baby and her mom was carrying their stroller folded up.  She came up to me and said "can you please show me how to unfold this stroller, I've been looking for someone with the same one as me"!  So we weren't the only ones who didn't know how to work the stroller.

I enjoy Mother's Day as much as the next mom but I don't need a day to be celebrated.  I don't feel anymore honored to be Delaney's mom today than I did yesterday or I will tomorrow.  Being Delaney's mom is like waking up every morning and having the best day ever.  Each day with her trumps the day before!

She has been so funny lately that I will have to do a post about the funny things she's been saying.  Just last night in the car she was telling me how when "she was little" she lived on a farm with mommy and daddy and started telling me all of the animals that were on the farm.  I told her she has never and will likely never live on a farm.  I hated to burst her bubble and it's not that we have anything against farms.  It's just that I"m pretty sure people who live on farms get up before 9:00 a.m.!!!  And Delaney and "big mommy" can't have any part of that.................
